The parts of the film that were actual comedy were pretty funny and enjoyable. It's not until Bateman and McCarthy's characters meet when the film actually starts to get funny and that happens like 30 mins+ into the movie. Also, It took quite a while to really get into the movie. It's a comedy, I don't want to feel depressed while watching it and they really should have cut down on that aspect of the film. I hated how it got so pointlessly sappy through out as well. I think they would have been better off if they focused on the bounty hunter subplot instead because that character was rather enjoyable to watch.
